Do you remember Mr Lam, our beneficiary last month? We redistributed to him and hired his moving service today!

Mr Lam is a single mid-aged (59) man who recently got allotted a public housing unit in Ngau Tau Kok and has an 84-year old mom to look after. We redistributed bed n mattress, a chest of drawers and fridge n washing machine to him last month. Today, we got him a dining set plus a TV!

Thanks to all the kind donors in DB Katsue, Elena and Purvi, for the chairs, table and TV; Katsue, Maeva, Ute and Wanda, for supporting our redistribution funding during our dropping off the donation session in La Costa playground, and Mura, Suzana and the staff of Bayside Dental…, we could arrange this redistribution promptly without fund-raising particularly.

Hiring his own moving service to redistribute to himself?
NO! I don’t mean that!

First, we sponsored his transport fare to come to DB to collect the goodies with Fred. Then, we found some moving jobs in Tung Chung for Mr Lam to earn some cash for his living. Not a lot, but it’s better than nothing.

In fact, he is currently jobless. Like any Chinese, he would like to earn some money to prepare for the Chinese New Year soon, especially his separated daughter will come back from Taiwan during the festival.

Therefore we were glad to be able to find some moving jobs for him today while he was on Lantau. Last but not least, thanks to Fred for assisting him to perform the job too.

In the end, Fred followed Mr Lam to his public housing unit in Ngau Tau Kok and took the final picture when all the donation arrived. After that, the two men had lunch together in the wet market of Mr Lam’s neighbourhood. Fred was the only ‘gwei-lo’ (meaning foreigners in Cantonese slang) over there and he felt like people found him come from Mars!

Extending the short-term help – offering material donations to the less fortunate – to a long term one – providing more job opportunities for the less fortunate to earn for themselves, is our new year resolution! This is our Nikki Delivery Service!

Our next Charity Saturday is on Jan 24. As Chinese New Year is approaching in less than a month, our collection appointments could be filled very quickly.
